Edward Taylor was a music teacher living in Barkingside and in about 1950 he formed a small choir from pupils, their parents and friends.  The group grew to over 80 members, becoming known as The Edward Taylor Singers and giving concerts in Ilford County High School, Ilford Town Hall, and local churches.

When Edward Taylor retired his place was taken by Ian Gray, Matthew Watts, Lawrence Tatnall and others with the name changing to The Mossford Singers, then to The New Essex Choral Society, and latterly to the New Essex Choir.

Generous support from Redbridge Arts Council enabled the choir to give ambitious concerts with high-quality orchestral players and soloists.

Today the New Essex Choir has a membership of about 20 – we need more singers to join us!

The choir’s Director of Music is Ben Thapa.
